Bark reddish brown, conspicuously tessellated on larger trees.
Inflorescence about 5-20 cm long. Calyx lobes +/- deltoid, about 0.5 mm long. Petals +/- lanceolate, about 5-5.5 mm long. Stamens usually ten, fused to form a staminal tube about 3.5-4.5 mm long, shallowly lobed at the apex, anthers sessile. Disk attached to the lower part of the ovary, ovary pubescent, about 1.5-2 x 2.5 mm, style pubescent, about 2-2.5 mm long, stigma terminal, +/- peltate.
Fruits glabrous externally and internally, usually 2-lobed, about 15-20 mm long. Seeds about 12-13 x 7-8 mm. Aril partly enclosing the seed. Cotyledons green, folded lengthways.
Cotyledons fleshy, reniform, about 10-15 mm wide, apex rounded, base cordate, venation obscure, about 3-5 veins radiating from petiole. At the tenth leaf stage: leaflet blades elliptic or obovate, leaflets increasing in size from the base to the apex of the compound leaf, upper surface glabrous or with a few hairs along midrib; domatia (tufts of hair) sometimes present on the underside. Petioles and stem densely clothed in hairs. Seed germination time 7 to 96 days.
Produces a useful and decorative cabinet timber.
Wood specific gravity 0.62. Cause et al. (1989).
