Cormous herb. Corm up to 5 cm diam.

Spathe up to 25 cm long with the lower part convolute for up to 4 cm, limb usually rather narrowly ovate, spreading and gradually tapering, brownish-purple; spadix slightly shorter than spathe, female in the lower 0.5-1 cm, then a ca. 0.5 cm long zone of crowded filiform sterile organs, then a naked zone ca. 2 cm long; male zone ca. 2 x 0.8 cm, male flowers 2- or -3 staminate; appendix stipitate with obtuse base and very narrowly conical.
