Family Description

A family of about 34 genera and 985 species, cosmopolitan; five genera occur naturally in Australia.

Genera

Afrohybanthus - A genus of about 17 species mainly from the Africa, India, SE Asia and Australia; three species occur naturally in Australia. Adams & George (1982); Bennett (1972); Flicker et al (2015).

Rinorea - A genus of about 300 species, pantropic; one species occurs naturally in Australia. Jacobs & Moore (1971).

Viola - A cosmopolitan genus of about 400 species; about 18 species occur in Australia, four are introduced and naturalised. Little & Leiper (2013).
