Anthers shape

The anther is the pollen bearing part of the stamen and commonly consists of two anther sacs. The length of the anther includes appendages at the apex, but not the anther valves or flaps. In some cases it can be difficult to decide which dimension should be designated as the length.  In most cases it is determined by the orientation of the anther in relation to the axis of the flower, particularly at the bud stage.  In the case of dorsifixed anthers, problems can sometimes arise, and in such cases, all features have been recorded for the species so that the species will not be eliminated because of difficulties in interpretation.
