L38 same colour as the upper surface This feature occurs only rarely in rain forest trees but is frequently encountered in species of Eucalyptus, Corymbia and Acacia with pendulous leaves.

L39 paler green than the upper surface The best way to test for this feature is to select an average leaf blade, cut it in half, and lay one half face down and the other face up beside it. Most rain forest trees and shrubs have leaf blades which are paler on the underside.

L40 rusty brown to white but not from hairs The colours encountered on leaves which possess this feature may vary substantially and generally result from numerous very small circular scales which may be visible with a lens. Red or purple undersides of leaves are also included in this category.
