B38 conspicuous Practically all blazes emit some kind of odour but to be classed as conspicuous it must be possible to relate it to some rather easily recognized odour, e.g. Sarsaparilla, liniment, mango, rotten tomatoes, cat's urine, etc. This refers to the blaze in general, not necessarily to the inner or outer blaze.

Blaze odour

The blaze is the surface of the cut bark. It is divided into an outer and inner layer. The two layers may be distinct, but frequently they are not. Where they are not distinct, the division is made half way through the living bark.
