Gynoecium fusion

It should not be assumed that a unilocular ovary consists of a single carpel; many unilocular ovaries were formed by the fusion of two or more carpels, and it is necessary to observe the number of placentas to be certain. Use this character with caution, and leave it out if in doubt.
