L36 smooth (when viewed with a lens) The undersurface is neither hairy nor prickly .

L37 hairy or sandpapery (when viewed with a lens) The undersurface is clothed in hairs or short sharp prickles which give it a rough texture. The minimum requirement for a hairy undersurface is that the midrib and all the main lateral veins are either hairy or prickly.
The undersurface of the leaf (or leaflet in the case of compound leaves).
