Acacia basedowii Maiden
Acacia basedowii Maiden
Basedow’s Wattle
Fabaceae
Found in central Australia from Rawlinson Ra. and Skirmish Hill, W.A., E to Macdonnell Ra., N.T. and Musgrave Ra., S.A.
Very similar to the more westerly distributed A. oxyclada but distinguished by branchlets with a conspicuous, flaking, white epidermis, phyllodes 5–20 mm long and 1–2 mm wide, peduncles 5–12 mm long and glabrous to subglabrous, and heads commonly 25–35-flowered; only old pod valves and no seeds seen.
Occurs on rocky slopes of ranges.
W.A.: Rawlinson Ra., J.R.Maconochie 815 (PERTH). N.T.: Mt Fraser, Mulga Park Stn, T.S.Henshall 167 (NSW, PERTH). S.A.: slopes of mountain E of Mt Woodroffe, Musgrave Ra., D.E.Symon 2675 (AD, K).
One of the diaphyllodinous species (see discussion under A. diaphyllodinea for definition and references); probably better treated as an infraspecific taxon of A. oxyclada, but seeds should be examined before any change is made.
