Buds free

All buds in a cluster are obviously separate from each other (most species). Individual buds may have pedicels (stalks) or be sessile (lack stalks).

Buds fused at their bases

All buds in the cluster are fused together by the bases with the obvious long opercula remaining free. Individual pedicels (stalks) are absent, however each cluster of fused buds has a prominent peduncle. Only eight taxa have fused buds e.g. Eucalyptus arborella, E. conferruminata.
