Along streams. Mainly coast, ranges, and tablelands. Naturlised in the ACT.
Shrub to 1.5 m tall. Bark hard, dark, fissured. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, mostly 2-4 cm long, 2-3 mm wide, linear and gradually tapering to a fine point or cylindrical, midrib prominent, tips with a short mucro. Flower spikes 40-80 mm long, 40–45 mm in diameter, red, sometimes purplish or pinkish. Individual flowers with 5 petals. Stamen filaments 15–20 mm long. Flowers mainly Summer,and sporadically throughout the year.
