Subalpine woodland and exposed slopes. ACT, the mountains to the west, and Kosciuszko National Park. Wadbilliga National Park, South East Forests National Park, and the tablelands nearby to the west.
Perennial herb to 0.4 m high. Scapes woolly. Leaves basal, 6–20 cm long, upper surface shining, lower surface with a woolly tomentum, bases with a broad sheath. Narrow leaf-like bracts on the stems. Flower heads with many white 'petals', reddish on the back, longer than the flower heads behind the 'petals', and yellow centres. Flowering: summer.
This species has been separated from Celmisia longifolia..
