Forest, rocky sites, and along streams. Coast, ranges, and occasionally on the tablelands.
Shrub or perennial herb to 2 m high. Branches hairy to woolly. Leaves alternating up the stems, 8-12 cm long, 15-40 mm wide, hairless or sparsely cottony above, woolly below, margins entire or slightly wavy, tips pointed. Flower heads with many white to translucent papery 'petals', and yellow centres. Flower heads 20–50 mm in diameter, more or less hemispherical, in a compact or open cluster of 8-12 flower heads. Flowers most of the year.
