Dry forest and heath. Coast, ranges, and the eastern tablelands north of the Kings Highway.
Upright shrub to 1 m tall. Stems hairy. Leaves alternating up the stems, 0.5-1.5 cm long, linear, not spirally twisted, more or less triangular in cross section with a groove along upper surface, tips blunt to pointed, surfaces hairless or with long, fine hairs, and warty. Standard petal 8-10 mm long. Calyx hairy, abruptly narrowed at the base. Flowers pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel, yellow, with red markings. No flower stalks. Flowers in dense clusters of 1-9 flowers at the ends of the banchlets. Flowers mostly Spring.
In all species of Dillwynia, the standard petal is much broader than long.
