Grassy areas, disturbed sites and roadsides. Widespread.
Introduced annual herb to 1 m tall. Stems striate, somewhat appressed hairy under longer, stiffly spreading hairs. Leaves basal and alternating up the stems, 2-12 cm long, 1-20 mm wide, surfaces hairy, often rough, margins toothed to lobed, sometimes the teeth obscure. Basal leaves withering early. Upper stem leaves entire. Flower heads 5-6 mm long, 8-12 mm wide, green, hemispherical to top shaped, with many florets, white to pink, sometimes tinged purple. Flower heads in clusters. Flowers all year.
