Where found

Variety of habitats, mainly dry forest, woodland, heath, and disturbed grassy areas. Widespread.

Notes

Shrub to 0.8 m high, or sprawling to prostrate. Stems and leaves greyish, hairy with simple wavy hairs or stellate hairs (needs a hand lens or a macro app on your phone/tablet to see), stems usually becoming hairless with age. Leaves alternating up the stems, 0.6-5 cm long, 1.5–14 mm wide, spoon-shaped to oblong, tips blunt, often with a mucro or notched, margins usually curved down. Flowers yellow, with 5 petals 6.6–15 mm long. Stamens usually 30–40, surrounding the carpels. Carpels 2-3, hairless. Flowers single, stalkless, at the ends of short shoots or more or less at the bases of the leaves. Flowering: spring to autumn and sporadically throughout the year.
