Alpine and subalpine herbfields and grassland. Kosciuszko National Park.
Perennial herb to 0.16 m tall. Flowering stems densely covered with short bristly appressed hairs. Leaves mostly basal, 0.8–3 cm long, 5-15 mm wide, rather densely covered with stiff appressed to spreading hairs, shorter and denser around the margins and on the lower surface. Leaves entire or with 1-2 short teeth or notches. Leaf stalks often much longer than the leaves. Flowers bright yellow, with usually 5 petals each 7–22 mm long. Sepals curved down. Flowers single. Flowering: summer. Seeds usually about 40–80, 2–3 mm long, lens-shaped or somewhat swollen, sides smooth, tapering gradually into a stout beak 1–2.2 mm long, straight or slightly hooked at the tip.
Hybridises with Ranunculus dissectifolius, Ranunculus graniticola, and Ranunculus niphophilus.
