Casearia sp. Mission Beach (B.P.Hyland 773)

Provisional HISPID phrase name.

Cream or yellowish cream stripes in the blaze.

Oil dots both circular and streaky, visible with a lens if not visible to the naked eye. Leaf blades about 6-10 x 2.5-4 cm. Midrib raised on the upper surface, lateral veins curved throughout their length. Stipules small and inconspicuous.

Perianth lobes about 1 mm long. Stamens usually 7-8, +/- equal in size, staminodes 7-8. Staminal filaments glabrous throughout.

Fruits about 8 mm long.

Cotyledons orbicular, about 5 x 5 mm. Oil dots very small, difficult to see. First pair of leaves toothed. At the tenth leaf stage: oil dots streaky and irregular; stipules small, triangular. Seed germination time 76 to 129 days.

Probably endemic to NEQ. This species is seldom collected but its altitudinal range is known to extend from sea level to 1000 m. Grows in a variety of situations but often in quite well developed rain forest or in drier rain forest.
