Ventenat, E.P. (1803) Choix de Plantes : t. 58. Type: Arbrisseau sarmenteux, decouvert a Java par M. La Haye; croissant dans les lieux eleves, et fleurissant durant toute la belle saison.

Stem

Vine stem diameters to 4 cm recorded.

Leaves

Leaf blades about 8.5-16 x 4-6.5 cm, petioles about 0.3-0.5 cm long. Domatia, if present, are tufts of hairs. Leaves opposite on plagiotropic shoots but whorled on orthotropic shoots. Young shoots and vegetative buds clothed in dark brown hairs.

Flowers

Calyx tube (hypanthium) about 1.3 mm long. Calyx lobes about 0.8 mm long. Petals about 1.1 mm long. Disk surrounding the base of the style. Stamens 10. Style about 4.5 mm long, stigma small, terminal.

Fruit

Fruits +/- sessile, about 35-40 x 10-12 mm, longitudinally 5-ribbed, conspicuously lobed in transverse section. Seeds about 15-20 mm long. Embryo +/- 5-winged, about 15-20 mm long.

Seedlings

Features not available.

Distribution and Ecology

Occurs in CYP. Known only from the Weipa area. Altitudinal range quite small, from near sea level to about 40 m. Grows in gallery forest. Also found in SE Asia and Malesia.
