Tree to 10 m, often flowering as a shrub. Subrhytidome black. Cambial layer turns dark brown to almost black.
Male inflorescence axes 3-10 mm long, branched or not, few or multiple axes in a leaf axil, up to 6 flowers maturing together; calyx tube 2.5 mm, lobes 4 ca. 0.5-0.7 mm long; corolla tube 7-7.5 mm long, lobes 4 ca. 4.3-4.7 mm long; stamens 9 (2+2+3+2), basal part connate for 1 mm; pistillode ca. 0.8 mm long. Female flowers solitary; calyx tube 3.5-4 mm long, lobes 4 ca. 9-11 mm long; corolla tube 4-5 mm long, lobes 4 ca. 9-10.5 mm long, recurved at anthesis; staminodes 7 or 8; ovary densely hairy with white or pale brown appressed hairs, 8-locular, style 2-2.5 mm long.
