Dissiliaria laxinervis Airy Shaw

Bark coarsely flaky. Blaze finely layered. Cream to pale brown hard brittle stripes in the blaze.

Leaves usually opposite but sometimes in whorls of three. Leaf blades about 9-17 x 4-8.5 cm. Stipules quite large, about 8-20 x 5-10 mm and longitudinally veined, but shed early. Lateral veins curved throughout their length and forming an obscure double set of loops inside the blade margin.

Male flowers about 5-6 mm diam. on long filiform pedicels. Styles shortly connate and recurved in the female flowers.

Capsules without horns, globular, about 15-20 mm wide before dehiscing. Capsules open +/- explosively, shattering to release the seeds. Seeds about 10 mm long, caruncle small and insignificant.

Cotyledons elliptic or obovoid, slightly oblique at the base, about 25-30 x 15-20 mm, lateral veins forming loops well inside the blade margins. At the tenth leaf stage: lateral veins forming loops inside the leaf margin; stipules interpetiolar, hairy. Seed germination time 12 days.

Endemic to Queensland, occurs in CYP. Altitudinal range from near sea level to about 100 m. Grows in well developed rain forest but is probably most abundant in gallery forest along creeks and rivers.
