Elaeocarpus miegei Weibel

Tree to 35 m tall, to 20 m in the N.T.; wtigs appressed-hairy when young or hairs minute so appear glabrous.

Leaf blades about 4-17 x 2-7.5 cm (juvenile, sub-canopy larger 27 x 11cm), oblanceolate or obovate to elliptic, petioles about 1-3 cm. Blade margin crenate-dentate. Lateral veins about 8-11 on each side of the midrib. Domatia rare or absent.

Inflorescence amongst or below leaves; raceme to 100 mm long, minutely hairy or glabrous. Pedicel to 10 mm long. Sepals 4 or 5, 4.5-5 x 0.5-1 mm; petals 4 or 5, 5 x 1.5-2.5 mm, white-cream, glabrous. Disc hairy. Stamens 8-15, between disc and ovary, ca. 2-3 mm long. Ovary glabrous or rarely hairy; style 2-3 mm long, glabrous.

Fruit ellipsoid, ca. 17 mm long x 12 mm diameter, glabrous, bright blue. Stone probably smooth, slightly winged.

Occurs in NT where it is only known from the Tiwi Islands. Altitudinal range in NT from near sea level to about 70 m. In NT grows in rainforest. Also occurs in New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
