Pygmy bishops-hat

Erect annual herb up to 20 cm tall. Stems scapose to scapiform; foliose part hispidulous or squamulose; bracteate part glabrous.

Leaves elliptic, ovate or lanceolate, 3.5-15 x 2-5.9 mm, hispidulous.

Flowers in terminal and axillary compound umbellate clusters; pedicels 25-32 mm long. Calyx campanulate, glabrous; tube 1-1.5 mm long; lobes 0.8-1.5 mm long, persistent in fruit. Corolla white outside, yellowish inside; tube 2.5-7.5 mm long; covered in scattered papillae on the inside,; lobes 0.5-1.5 mm long. Stamens 1.5-5.1 mm long.

Capsule ellipsoidal, 2-3 mm long; fruiting style 0.5-5 mm long. Testa obscurely sculptured.

Occurs in CYP, NEQ, CEQ and south to north eastern New South Wales. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 1020 m. Grows in sclerophyll forest, Eucalypt forest, notophyll vineforest, various types of woodland, heathland and grassland. Also from India, SE Asia, New Guinea and New Caledonia.
