Leaf blades 3.5-6 x 0.4-1 cm, surface covered in scabrid hairs and silky hairs, lamina base asymmetrical; leaf sheath about 1-1.5 cm long, densely hairy. Ligule a ciliated or erosed membrane 0.5 mm high with longer hairs on the shoulders.
Inflorescence a terminal raceme or spike of flower clusters. Each cluster a short spike of flowers or spikelets containing 3-5 flowers. Each cluster contains female and hermaphrodite flowers. Inflorescence axis hairy with the rachis triquetrous and pubescent. Pedicels with long spreading hairs. Outer glume aristate, the hairs purplish and ca. 6 mm long, glume with a prominent keel with 2 veins on either side, awn 8-9 mm long and viscid. Inner glumes glabrous, with prominent keel, awn 0.5-1.5 mm long. Ovary obovoid, ca. 0.4 mm long. Stigmas plumose, white.
