Family Description

A family of ca. 18 genera and ca. 180 species, pantropic but extending into temperate regions in the southern hemisphere; six genera occur naturally in Australia.

Genera

Podocarpus - A genus of 95 species widely distributed in the southern hemisphere but extending into Asia; seven species occur naturally in Australia. Hill (1998); Laubenfels (1985, 1988).

Prumnopitys - A genus of ca. 10 species in Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, South and Central America; two species occur naturally in Australia. Hill (1998); Laubenfels (1978, 1988); Biffin (2010).
