Occasionally grows into a small tree but also flowers and fruits as a shrub.

Leaf blades about 4-6.5 x 3.5-4.5 cm. Freshly broken twigs and petioles produce a small amount of milky exudate(?). Leaf blade +/- glabrous on the upper surface but densely clothed in +/- erect, tortuous, white hairs on the underside. Some medifixed hairs usually visible on the twigs and leaves. Young shoots, terminal buds and petioles densely clothed in brown hairs.

Sepals in two whorls, variously hairy on the outer surface. Inner sepals about 9-12 mm long, outer sepals about 7-8 mm long. Corolla mainly glabrous except for the ciliate margins of the corolla lobes. Anthers apiculate at the apex. Ovary constricted near the base, densely clothed in straight brown hairs. One ovule per locule.

Fruits +/- globose, about 60-70 mm diam., clothed in rusty brown or golden brown irritant hairs. Calyx lobes persistent at the base of the fruit.

Occurs in CYP and the northen part of NEQ. Altitudinal range from near sea level to 100 m(?). Usually grows in open forest but also found in beach forest, monsoon forest and vine thickets.
