Family

Whiffin, T. & Foreman, D.B. (2007) Flora of Australia 2: 451.

Stem

Seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh, usually poorly formed and/or multistemmed. Oak grain in the wood and a corresponding pattern in the inner blaze.

Leaves

Fine oak grain in the twigs. Leaf blade generally fairly large, about 13-21 x 7-10 cm, lateral veins curved throughout their length but not really forming definite loops. Oil dots visible with a lens on the underside of the leaf blade but difficult to see on the upper surface.

Flowers

Inflorescence usually shorter than the leaves. Flowers about 2-3 mm diam. Tepals small and inconspicuous. Staminal filaments fused to form a short thick tube. Female flowers operculate. Carpels about 12-18, each about 1 mm long, villous.

Fruit

Receptacle orange, slightly swollen, glabrescent to puberulent. Fruiting carpels ellipsoid, about 15-17 x 12-13 mm. Seed about 13 x 10 mm. Embryo about 6 mm long. Cotyledons wider than the radicle.

Seedlings

Cotyledons ovate to almost orbicular, about 25-38 x 15-31 mm, apex obtuse, base cordate, 3-veined, petioles about 7 mm long. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade elliptic to elongate-elliptic, apex acute or acuminate, base cuneate or attenuate, margin serrate to crenate, glabrous; petiole glabrous or sparsely hairy. Seed germination time 34 to 75 days.

Distribution and Ecology

Endemic to Queensland, occurs in CYP and NEQ. Altitudinal range from sea level to 800 m. Grows as an understory tree in lowland and upland rain forest on a variety of sites.
