Cryptocarya glaucocarpa B.Hyland

Generally a small tree seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh.

Twigs +/- terete or slightly angular, clothed in straight, pale brown, appressed hairs when young but soon becoming glabrous. Leaf blades about 9-16 x 3.5-6 cm, green on the underside, clothed in straight, white or pale brown, appressed hairs when young but soon becoming glabrous. Midrib depressed on the upper surface. Petioles channelled on the upper surface. Oil dots visible with a lens.

Inflorescence paniculate, not exceeding the leaves. Flower features unknown.

Fruits ellipsoid, about 13-17 x 10-12 mm. Surface of the fruits usually covered by an opaque glaucous bloom. Cotyledons cream.

First pair of leaves ovate, elliptic or almost orbicular, about 28-50 x 15-35 mm, green on the underside. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade obovate, apex acuminate; upper surface of new leaves hairy, but only along midrib on older leaves; oil dots small, visible only with a lens. Petiole densely hairy. Seed germination time 21 to 43 days.

Endemic to CYP, known only from collections made on the Claudie River in the Iron Range area. Altitudinal range from sea level to 80 m. Grows as an understory tree in gallery forest.

This species has no commercial value as it seldom grows large enough to produce millable logs. Wood specific gravity 0.87. Hyland (1989).
