Cussan. J. Le & Hyland, B.P.M. (2007) Flora of Australia 2: 457. Type: Queensland, State Forest Reserve 310, Parish of Gadgarra, 24 Feb.1988, B Gray 4760. Holo: QRS.

Stem

A thin cream or pale brown layer generally visible beneath the subrhytidome layer before the first section of the outer blaze.

Leaves

Twigs fluted, clothed in tortuous, brown prostrate and erect hairs which persist even on old twigs. Leaf blades about 6-11.5 x 2-4 cm, usually glaucous on the underside, sparsely clothed in straight, white prostrate hairs which persist to some extent even on old leaves. Midrib flush with the upper surface or raised in a groove on the upper surface. Petioles flat or shallowly channelled on the upper surface. Oil dots visible with a lens.

Flowers

Inflorescence paniculate, not exceeding the leaves. Flowers without any obvious perfume. Lower half of the perianth tube glabrous on the inner surface. Tepals about 1-1.2 mm long, pubescent on the outer surface. Ovary +/- glabrous, occasional sparse hairs only, style glabrous.

Fruit

Fruits ellipsoid, about 9-13 x 8-10 mm. Cotyledons cream.

Seedlings

First pair of leaves lanceolate to ovate, about 30-40 x 8-19 mm, slightly glaucous on the underside. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade slightly glaucous on the underside, with a few scattered hairs on the midrib and main lateral veins; upper surface may have a few scattered pale hairs along the midrib and lateral veins; midrib raised on the upper surface; oil dots small, numerous, visible only with a lens. Seed germination time 13 days.

Distribution and Ecology

Probably endemic to NEQ. Altitudinal range from 500-700 m. Grows as an understory tree in well developed rain forest and drier rain forest in marginal situations.
