Stem

Annual with hairy nodes.

Leaves

Leaf-blade thinly textured with a wide whitish midrib, base of leaf-blade above ligule densely hairy; leaf sheath hairy in the upper part and with a dense hairy ring at the base; ligule with hairs on back of shoulders, erosed membrane on the inside.

Flowers

Inflorescence strongly contracted, linear in outline. Rachis triquetrous in cross-section, Spikelets solitary, fertile spikelet with pedicel 1 mm long; Single fertile floret or spikelet. Glumes similar and with 3 green scabrid veins, lower glume keeled, scabrid, with 3 veins, awn very thin and wiry, 6-14 mm long

Fruit

Caryopsis smooth, oblong, ca. 2 mm long.

Seedlings

Features not available.

Distribution and Ecology

Occurs in CYP and NEQ. Altitudinal range from 20-400 m. Grows in sandy soils and sometimes on rocks along streams in rainforest and vine forest. Also from New Guinea.
