Stem

Seldom exceeding 30 cm dbh.

Leaves

Leaf blades about 3.5-18 x 1.5-6 cm, rather sticky and aromatic when crushed.

Flowers

Pedicels nil or up to 0.5 mm long. Petals 2.5-3.5 mm long. Stamens eight, dimorphic, four long and four short. Staminal filaments hairy. Style hairy towards the base.

Fruit

Fruits glabrous, about 4-5 mm long. Seeds about 4-5 x 2 mm, testa obscurely striate and minutely rugulose.

Seedlings

Cotyledons elliptic, about 6 mm long. Oil dots small, more conspicuous about the margin. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade obovate, teeth inconspicuous, mainly along the upper 1/3 of the leaf blade, glabrous. Seed germination time 94 days.

Distribution and Ecology

Endemic to NEQ, restricted to the higher mountains between Mt Finnigan and Mt Lewis. Altitudinal range from 1000-1200 m. Grows as an understory tree in well developed mountain rain forest.
