Oxalis chnoodes Lourteig

Lourteig, A. (1979) Phytologia 42: 174. Type: New Guinea, Khebar Valley, c. 100 Km West of Manokwari, in grass plains, along Anjai Airstrip, c. 550 m, leg. P. van Royen 3932 30 X 1954 L. Isótipos A, CANB.

Herb with decumbent branches, sometimes creeping, up to 40 cm long, sparsely to densely hairy, with hairs spreading and/or retrorse; roots fibrous.

Leaves cauline, fasciculate, 3-foliolate; leaflets obovate-cuneate, bilobed, sinus to an eighth to a fifth the length of leaflet; lobes oblong to obovate, 7-14 mm long, usually 2-5 mm wide, with lobe apices rounded and 2-12 mm apart; petiole 0.8-3 cm long; stipules usually conspicuous, truncate to abruptly tapering to petiole, usually densely hairy, densely ciliate.

Inflorescences 2-4-flowered cyme. Petals 6-12 mm long, yellow. Filaments fused at base. Ovary hairy.

Fruit erect, usually held above the leaves, short and subglobose to ellipsoid, ca. 9 mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm diam.; outer surface with simple retrorse hairs. Seeds glossy, ribbed.

Occurs in NEQ, CEQ and southwards to Victoria. Altitudinal range from 100-1040 m. Grows in rainforest, sclerophyll forest, Eucalypt forest, notophyll vineforest, woodland, shrubland and heathland, prefers heavy-textured soils. Also in New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago.
