Buttresses conspicuous, often convex on large trees.

Two glands visible at the apex of the petiole at its junction with the leaf blade. Leaf blades about 7-13 x 3-5 cm. Lateral veins forming loops well inside the blade margin. Stipules small and inconspicuous, visible with a lens on young shoots.

Sepals minutely felty outside. Petals induplicate, each petal enclosing 13 stamens and a disk gland. Petals about 15-17 x 6-8 mm, divided into about 20 narrow lobes at the apex. Stamens 13 opposite each petal and two opposite each sepal. Style 3-fluted at the base.

Fruit about 35-45 x 35 mm. Seed (without the aril) about 25 x 16 mm. Testa about 2 mm thick.

Cotyledons obovate, fleshy. First pair of leaves ovate, about 9-11 cm long. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade elliptic or elongate-elliptic, apex acuminate, base cuneate sometimes lobed, toothed along margin from the base to the apex, glabrous, lateral veins forming loops well inside the margin of the leaf blade; stipules minute, visible only with a lens. Seed germination time 18 to 22 days.

Endemic to NEQ, restricted to the Mossman River catchment. Altitudinal range from 40-400 m. Grows in well developed rain forest.
