Annual or short lived perennial herb, prostrate, branches to about 1 m. long. Stems warty, fleshy when young. Leaves somewhat fleshy, alternating along the stems, 2-10 cm long, 10-50 mm wide, prominently warty, hairless. Flowers with 4-5 green to yellow 'petals', each about 2 mm long. Flowers single or in pairs. Flowers most of year. Fruit 4-6 winged or angled, at first green and fleshy but becoming pale brown and hard.
Alternative spelling is Tetragonia tetragonioides.
